Create Well-Defined Boundaries for a Successful Life

The incident with the wild dogs (What's Holding You Back from Achieving Your Goals) reminded me that many of exist in self-imposed prisons. If your life is not the way you want it to be, remember you have created it. The good news is that the same power that has been invested in you that allowed you to create a world that you don't like will also facilitate you creating your ideal world.

When we think of prison we think of being fenced in and it was because the grounds of the house where I am staying are not fully enclosed that the stray dogs were able to get in. There are obviously advantages and disadvantages to this and I'm not suggesting that all homes should have a fence of some sort. In the same way we create mental prisons we can also create physical prisons and fortress-style living is not to everyone's taste. However, we do need to create boundaries in our lives so that those with whom we interact know what is acceptable to us and what isn't and also so that we too have clear parameters on how we want to live our lives.

When we have these guiding principles in place it makes our lives so much easier because we have clear guidelines on how to make decisions that affect our lives. Having clarity about what you stand for means you won't be like a leaf in the wind swinging this way and then that way and basically going nowhere and achieving little of substance.

"When you know who you are and what you stand for, you stand in wisdom."
Oprah Winfrey

So take some time out for inner reflection and examine your life for the unwelcome elements, reoccurring situations that you are not happy with and even the presence of individuals in your life who are having a negative impact on well being. These are clear indications of where your personal boundaries may need reinforcing or even constructing. Having well-defined boundaries will help you to live a successful life.
