Jade Goody's Cancer Fears, Mortality And Longevity

The celebrity Jade Goody has cervical cancer. Now, I have to make it clear that I'm not a fan of Jade Goody and certainly not a fan of the program Big Brother but news of Jade's health has been featured on the front pages of several papers and so is hard to miss. Naturally, I feel compassion for Jade. I wouldn't wish ill-health on anyone. But let me explain why I've chosen to write about this.

In a recent update I read that doctors had informed Jade that it was possible that her cancer had spread and that she might not survive 10 years. From news reports she has taken this information to heart and is quite distraught.

When I attended Tony Robbins "Unleash the Power Within" seminar there was a presentation called "Living Health" by a member of his team - sorry I can't recall his name at the moment. His mother had been diagnosed with cancer and he described the intense battle of wills he had with her doctor who wanted to tell her that she had only a few months to live.

He believed that if his mother were given this news that it would literally be her death sentence and he would not permit them the doctor to say this to her. After her operation, where surgeons removed a growth the size of a grapefruit from her intestines, he got lots of comedy videos for her to watch while she was recuperating. He also bought nutritious foods for her to eat. He kept her in such high spirits that at times she begged him to stop making her laugh for fear that she might burst her stitches.

Laughter has a powerful positive effect on the body's immune system. Negative emotions such as anxiety, worry and anger have a negative effect on the body's immune system. His mother went on to live another 12 years. How do you think this story would have ended if his mother had been told that she only had a few months to live?

Let me tell you of another story which I heard most recently from the motivational speaker Les Brown, although I have heard this story before. Les Brown had prostrate cancer and is now free of the disease. His account of his ordeal made me laugh yet it was a very moving and frank rendition of what he went through. However, if you know anything of Les Brown he just loves to laugh and his laughter is infectious.

Two men went to a doctor to get the results of their medical. The doctor told one man that he had a rare disease and would not live beyond 3-4 months. He told the other that he had a clean bill of health.

The health of the first man rapidly deteriorated and he was dead within four months. The second man lived a normal life with no major health complaints. However, it was later discovered that the test results for these two men had been mixed up.

The mind is extremely powerful and our bodies are a reflection of our mind.

So my point is that if you or someone you care about becomes ill you don't have to believe the prognosis. The diagnosis is an indication of your body's current state of health. It is not necessarily an indication of your body's future state of well-being.

Of course, you should seek medical attention and follow medical advice but you don't have to believe in a negative prognosis. The reality is that doctors don't know everything. There have been countless documented cases of individuals who were diagnosed with serious and or life-threatening illnesses who were miraculously cured without medical intervention.

Jade Goody can either succumb to the belief that she will die young from cancer or she can choose an alternative ending to the script of her life.
