Learn How to Enhance Your Self-Esteem and Super-charge Your Self-Confidence

The extent of your self-esteem and self-confidence will either make or break you and Oprah Winfrey asked an interesting question regarding self-esteem.

"Are we all born with innate self-esteem that erodes over time or is self-esteem something we were supposed to pick up along the way?"

I believe that we are born with innate self-esteem but our environment affects whether we build our self-esteem or tear it down.

The trouble is that you are not even aware of the many of the factors and incidents that influence, shape and build or destroy your self-esteem and self-confidence as many occur during childhood. And a lot of damage can occur during this period and this damage can persist through to adulthood when you may become more analytical of your behaviour and more critical of your results.

You may find that despite your best efforts your results do not meet your expectations. And, superficially, there can be several practical reasons for this but when you delve deep enough you'll generally find that, somewhere along the line there are issues regarding your self-esteem and self-confidence.

When you address these issues you naturally become more and when you become more you're able to do more because you have greater belief in your abilities and you therefore achieve more. Increasing your self-esteem and self-confidence puts you in a more expansive state.

So while a degree of self-esteem may be encoded into your being from birth, as with everything, if you don't work to enhance your self-esteem it will erode over time. The most successful individuals will all tell you that they have worked on improving their self-esteem and when they did their life and their results improved dramatically.

So here are three simple ways to enhance your self-esteem and super-charge your self-confidence:

1. Change Your Physiology
Or more simply put – change your physical state. Some people practice being as small as possible. You get the feeling sometimes that if they could make themselves invisible they would. It's like when you watch a performance by a dance company. You often find that your eyes are riveted on a particular dancer because they have that something extra, that special presence that has nothing whatsoever to do with their dance technique.

So stand taller, hold your head up high, expand your shoulders, breath more fully and walk with a spring in your stride. You'll immediately start to feel better about yourself because by changing your physical state you'll positively alter your biochemical state as well.

2. Change Your Self-Talk
Business Optimization Expert, Stephen Pierce said that the foundation to all success is a combination of your self-talk, self-esteem and self-image. It's one thing for a person to speak to you in a derogatory manner. It's quite another when that person is you as Rob Bremer said:

"If you had a friend who talked to you like you sometimes talk to yourself, would you continue to hang around with that person?"

Now you can't get away from you and so to improve your self-esteem, it's imperative that you improve your self-talk. You know you feel better when someone speaks to you in a positive and encouraging manner and so do yourself a favour and speak to yourself in this manner whether or not things are going your way.

Stephen Pierce said in the early days of his own personal transformation he used to shout out "Cancel" whenever he found himself thinking a negative thought. You can adopt your own method of interrupting the pattern of your negative thinking.

3. Stare Fear in the Face
You can either live a life of fear where you're afraid to try anything new and afraid to go after your goals and dreams because you fear that you will not be successful. Or you can stare fear in the face and do the thing you think you cannot.

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face... You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
Eleanor Roosevelt

You can start out by doing small things and gradually work your way up to doing things which are more challenging. Or you can do something of greater magnitude. The thing is that each time you overcome your fear, when you face fear on another occasion it becomes easier to overcome because, within your memory bank you'll have lots of experiences to refer to.

And each time you do this you'll be giving your self-esteem a boost.
