To Achieve Success Be the Change You Want to See in the World

To achieve success in life in general or in a particular endeavour, people often aim to change their circumstances. However, in many cases, they are attempting to make these changes without changing themselves.

Mahatma Gandhi said:

"Be the change you want to see in the world."

This statement is rich in truth but, unfortunately, is all too often ignored.

It goes back to the NLP principle of cause and effect. If you accept 100% responsibility for your life and for the level of success you achieve in life then you are at cause. And, contrary to what many think, this is a very powerful place to be because it puts you in control. It puts you in a place where you can make a difference.

If you don't accept responsibility for your life then you are at effect and basically your belief is that you'll get what you want when everyone else changes. Now you know that is never going to happen. But just suppose for a moment that it was theoretically possible for you to change everyone else. Can you still see that practically it's an impossible task?

Dr Bruce Lipton, in talking about the early days of epigenetics said that when he realised that we had the power to alter the actual genetic make-up of our cells with our thoughts said he was so excited about the implications of this that he would tell anyone who paused long enough for him to share his findings. However, he noticed that, in particular, when he gave group presentations, that the reception he received was not as enthusiastic as he expected. Then, one day after one such presentation, someone made a remark to him that made him realise that the physical image he was presenting was not congruent with the message he was delivering.

As simplistic as it may seem, he had been so excited about sharing the results of his research that he didn't consider applying those results to his own life. In other words he had an intellectual rather than a practical understanding of what he was teaching. It was a big aha moment for him and once he started to actually apply what he knew to improve the quality of his life there was a huge shift in the way his message was received.

As Dr Joe Vitale, bestselling author of "Attract Money Now" said:

"Everything on the outside is an illusion. It looks very, very real - that's part of the hypnotic trance we're all in but in order to change it and change anybody else you don't change it or anybody else - you change the inside of you."

In other words, if you are striving to achieve success by changing your external world without doing the work on you, you are trying to change an illusion and that doesn't make sense. However, if you do the work on you, you'll become more aligned with your authentic self. Your perception will change and so too will your reality as you become more congruent with that which you desire.

Unfortunately, what happens in many cases is that people are very anxious for change to take place and they do a lot of actions geared towards directly changing their results. But, any positive change they achieve is fleeting. When you learn to do the necessary internal work your external circumstances will automatically start to shift for the better and with seemingly little effort on your part. And this includes how people around you behave as well.

So once you decide what it is that you want to accomplish, figure out who you'd have to be in order to achieve the success you desire and then work on your inner programming so that you become that person.
