The Burden of Debt And The 20 Million Dollar Man

Recently a millionaire's country estate was burnt to the ground and several bodies have been recovered. While police are still examining the evidence they are not seeking anyone else in their investigation.

What appears to have taken place is that the millionaire businessman killed his wife and daughter before setting the country mansion alight and taking his own life. Not even the pets survived as three horses and four dogs were shot.

The businessman's company went into liquidation last year with debts of nearly £1 million. I can only surmise that the stress and pressure of dealing with this matter was such that this man felt that the only way out was to take his life. I cannot even begin to imagine the mental torture this man must have been going through that would make him do such a deed.

This story both shocked and saddened me but it's a situation that has happened numerous times in the past and will, no doubt, happen again in the future. This is my take on this unfortunate case.

This man may have been a millionaire on paper but he was not a millionaire in his mind. There have been many individuals who have lost vast fortunes but have re-grouped and re-built their financial empire.

I recently read the story of a man called Douglas Goodey who at the age of 65 found himself with over $4 million of debt. He didn't give up or cave in. Over the next 10 years he earned $20 million and paid off all his creditors. He had a very different outlook on life. In his report "15 Secrets that Made Me Millions" he said that when his life went completely awry he said to himself:

"Well, this is it…It cannot get worse! There is only one way to go from here and that is up."

Douglas Goodey, "The 20 Million Dollar Man" is now 80 years old and still has an optimistic outlook on life and is using hislife story to empower and inspire others to overcome their financial challenges.
